The building: A National Memorial Site for the Fallen of the Israeli Intelligence Community
Location: Glilot, near Ramat Hasharon
Building Year: 1984
Architect: Baruch Baruch, Josef Salamon
Structural Engineers: Kidan, Boryshansky
This building complex is located in the vicinity of Ramat Hasharon, and is dedicated to
the fallen soldiers of the Israeli Intelligence Force. An artificial topography composed
of a sand table frames the site and creates a world apart, while concealing the sunken
structure.
The structure is surrounded by tall Eucailyptus trees, which also grow within it; these
trees contribute to creating a separation between the world inside the structure and the
world outside it, and to underscoring the difference in height between these two worlds.
The structure, which is built of local sandstone, contains a labyrinthine memorial, an
amphitheater and an office building.
The memorial is composed of a series of closed structures that form passages
between seemingly distinct spaces. Every niche along the labyrinth is etched with the
names of the fallen, according to the date and place of their death.
